The 9 iron is one of my favourite clubs for playing on short courses. It has a range of 110-130yds (101-119m) I can get a nice accurate shot that gets me nicely on the green.
This club on the long course can be used in a host of different ways.
You can either pitch it long with a full swing or chip it delicately from the fringe of the green.
