Indian Golf Gets A Boost With The New SAIL Open

It seems Indian golf has got a boost thanks to the launch of a fourth Asian Tour event which offers a $400,000 prize money. The tournament, called the first SAIL Open will tee off at Jaypee Greens in Noida in north India on February 20th and will run until the February 23rd.

The tournament, sanctioned by the Asian Tour and Professional Golf Tour of India, has already attracted star golfers such as Jeev Milkha Singh, Arjun Atwa and Jyoti Randhawa.

Ajai Gupta, the PGTI tour commissioner has said,

“Indian golf has finally come of age. The prize money in Indian golf, as also Asian golf, is now commensurate with the quality that we have. I am sure the emergence of the SAIL Open at Jaypee Greens as a new event on Indian soil and on the Asian Tour will further enhance India’s contribution to the promotion of the sport in the continent.”

The SAIL Open will bring the total number of Asian Tour tournaments in India to four, putting it in second place behind China which currently has five tournaments on the 2008 Asian Tour schedule.
