Almost half your shots in any round of golf are putts so it is vital to develop a good stroke. If you putt well you are halfway to recording a decent score. Good putting is so important that just a handful of missed putts per round can mean the difference between a 19 and a 24 handicap.
The object of every putt is to hole the ball. If you don’t, try to ensure that the ball is past the hole but near enough so that you next shot is from close range. Anything more than two putts per green is a waste of strokes.
After hitting tee and fairway shots 200yd or more, you finish every hole by putting the ball into the cup.
Putts vary in distance from 27meters one to a meter tap-in from the edge of the hole.
However, most putts are between 2-30ft.
Because a putt is normally quite short, it needs the shortest swing and least energy of any shot. Yet good putting requires precise stroke-making.
