In a move to persuade cricket-mad India to embrace golf, the organisers of the biggest golf tournament ever held in India have opened the doors for free. The Indian Masters, which is the first European Tour ever played in India, started this week with golfing star Ernie Els headlining.
Mohamed Juma Buamaim, head of promoters golf-in-Dubai, has said,
“The very intention behind waiving the entry fee is to encourage golfing fans to come and watch big players, some of them coming to India for the first time. It’s really unheard of in the world of professional golf that an event of this stature and class is offered to spectators at no cost,”
With the free entry, organisers expect more that 20,000 people a day to watch the tournament.
Although Golf’s popularity in India is increasing, the country still has a burning love for cricket!
