Zach Johnson was the winner of this years Masters. Born in Iowa City he was raised in Cedar Rapids and developed his golf skills at Elmcrest Country Club and as a member of the Regis High School golf team, which is now obsolete. Apparently, Johnson admitted to not being the best player on his high school team - something tells me he was being modest!
After attending Drake University, Zach turned pro in 1998. Starting on the developmental tour circuit (including the Prairie Golf Tour and the NGA Hooters Tour) he won three regular-season events in 2001. Two years later he topped the money list on the Nationwide Tour with what was record earnings that year (he earned $494,882)
In 2004, Johnson won his first PGA tour even BellSouth Classic. Johnson has also featured in the top 40 of the Official World Golf Rankings and, after finishing 9th on the U.S Points List, he qualified for the 2006 U.S Ryder Cup.
His most recent victory was on April 8th this year when Johnson won the Masters Tournament in Augusta. He won by a margin of 2 strokes over runners up Tiger Woods, Retief Goosen and Rory Sabbatini.
This win has seen Johnson fly from the number 56 to number 15 in the Official World Golf Ranking. He was also the first person outside the top 50 to win the masters tournament in the history of the ranking.
